# Clipping Income Math: Turning Views Into a Number You Can Plan Around

Clipping income is four variables multiplied together. Get honest about each one and the monthly number stops being a guess.

Short answer

Rates & economics

Figures checked August 2026

Monthly clipping income is clips posted per month, times median views per clip, times your blended rate per 1,000 views, times your verification rate. A realistic beginner month is 60 clips at a 3,000-view median and a $1 blended rate with 70% verification, which is about $126. The two variables worth attacking are clip volume and median views, because the rate is set by campaigns and verification is mostly process discipline.

## The numbers that matter

clips x views x rate x verification

The formula

Monthly clips, median views per clip, dollars per 1,000 views, and the share of views that actually pay.

~$125

Beginner month

60 clips, 3,000-view median, $1 blended, 70% verified. Most first months land under this.

~$1,000 - $2,500

Consistent operator month

200-300 clips, 8,000-15,000 view median, same rate. Requires a real production pipeline.

Use the median

Median beats mean

One 2M-view clip destroys your average and makes next month look like a failure. Plan on the middle clip.

## Rate reference

Observed market ranges, not guaranteed rates. Individual campaigns set their own terms and can change them at any time.

| Source | Typical rate | Paid on | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trying it out | $0 - $150 / month | 30-60 clips, 1k-3k median views | Most people stop here. The output is a skill, not income. |
| Part-time, consistent | $150 - $800 / month | 80-150 clips, 3k-8k median views | Achievable with a daily posting habit and two or three live campaigns. |
| Full-time operator | $1,000 - $3,000 / month | 200-400 clips, 8k-20k median views | Requires batch production, multiple accounts, and active campaign selection. |
| Team or agency | $3,000+ / month | Multiple clippers, shared pipeline | Now it is a business with payroll. See the agency economics page. |

## The playbook

1

### Count clips, not hours

Hours worked has no relationship to clipping income; posted clips does. Set a weekly clip target you can actually hit and track it like a factory line. Fifteen clips a week is 780 a year, and volume is what turns a lottery into a distribution.

Tip: A missed day is a missed set of views forever. Batch on your best day so a bad day does not zero the week.

2

### Track the median, throw out the outliers

Log every clip's 7-day view count in a sheet. Your median clip, not your best one, is what predicts next month. When a clip does 500,000 views, take the money and mentally exclude it from your planning number, because you cannot repeat it on demand.

Tip: After 30 clips you have a usable median. Before that, you are guessing.

3

### Attack views per clip through the hook

Median views per clip is the highest-leverage variable and it is decided almost entirely in the first two seconds. Same source, same campaign, same account: a clip that opens on the punchline outperforms one that opens on setup by multiples. Cutting your entry point later is free and compounds across every clip you ever post.

Tip: Post two cuts of the same moment with different opening frames. Do it ten times and you will know your own hook rules.

4

### Fix verification before chasing rate

Moving from 70% to 95% verification is a 36% raise and it costs nothing but process: submit links immediately, read the rules page before posting, screenshot analytics at 24h and 7d, and stop posting into pools that are nearly empty. That is a bigger win than finding a campaign paying 20% more.

Tip: Keep a rejected-clips log with the reason. Two weeks of that kills most of your rejection rate.

5

### Recompute monthly and be willing to quit

Run the four numbers at the end of every month. If your effective hourly rate is below what your time is worth elsewhere and the trend is flat after three months, the honest answer is that this niche or campaign set is not working. Change niche, change campaigns, or stop.

Tip: Effective hourly rate is the only metric that compares clipping to alternatives. Compute it.

## How this goes wrong

### Survivorship bias in every income screenshot

The earnings screenshots you see are the top percentile of clippers in the top percentile of months. They are real and they are not the distribution. Your own median clip is the only honest input.

### Planning on the mean

One viral clip pulls your average view count far above the median and makes every subsequent month look like a decline. Plan on the median, treat virality as a bonus.

### Ignoring unpaid time

Sourcing, reading rules pages, submitting, screenshotting and disputing are all unpaid. Include them in your hourly maths or you will overestimate the business by half.

## Features

### Volume Without Burnout

One long-form source becomes a full batch of candidates, so weekly clip targets stop depending on willpower

### Hook-Scored Candidates

Every moment is scored on opening strength, which is the variable that moves median views per clip

### Variants Per Render

Different trims and opening frames per export, so A/B testing your hook is a setting rather than a re-edit

### Minutes Per Clip

Cutting, captioning and reframing collapse into one automated pass, which is where the hourly rate is won

### Caption Presets

Ten word-level caption styles, applied in one click, matching what performs on short-form

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How much can a beginner clipper realistically make in month one?

Usually under $150, and often nothing. A typical first month is 30-60 clips with a median of a few thousand views at around $1 per 1,000 verified, with a chunk of those views never verifying. The first month buys you a median you can plan with, not income.

### What is the formula for clipping income?

Clips per month, multiplied by median views per clip, multiplied by your blended rate per 1,000 views, multiplied by your verification rate. Every improvement you make lands in exactly one of those four terms.

### Should I use average or median views per clip?

Median. A single viral clip inflates the average so badly that a normal following month reads as a collapse. The median clip is the one that repeats.

### Is it better to raise my rate or my verification rate?

Verification, almost always. Going from 70% to 95% verified is a 36% raise available purely through process discipline, while chasing higher-rate campaigns usually means smaller pools and more competition.

### How long before clipping income becomes predictable?

About 30 posted clips before your median is meaningful, and roughly three months before you can see a trend rather than noise. If it is flat after three months of real volume, change something structural rather than posting harder.

## Move the Variable You Control

Clips per month and median views are the two terms you own. OpenClip raises the first by collapsing production into one pass, and the second by scoring every candidate on hook strength.
