# AI Writer (https://openclip.app/docs/ai-writer/) AI Writer generates written content from a Video you have already processed. It works from the transcript, so anything with clear speech (a podcast, webinar, or talking-head video) gives the best results. ## Turn it on [#turn-it-on] AI Writer runs per Brand. Open your Brand at [https://openclip.app/brands](https://openclip.app/brands) and enable the **Repurpose into text content** toggle. With it on, every Video processed with that Brand automatically generates written content once the transcript and content analysis finish. See [Brand settings](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/settings/) for the other Brand options. ## What it generates [#what-it-generates] | Content type | Where it shows up | | ----------------------------------- | ------------------------- | | Blog post | Long-form Content section | | SEO content | Long-form Content section | | Newsletter | Long-form Content section | | Social posts (Twitter and LinkedIn) | Social Posts section | Newer Videos generate each type from the insights OpenClip extracts during processing, so the writing is grounded in the actual points made in the Video rather than a raw transcript summary. ## Where to find it [#where-to-find-it] Open the Video's [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/) and switch to the **Pre-generated** tab. Long-form pieces and social posts are grouped separately. Click any piece to open it at its own page (`/videos/{video}/content/{task}`), where you can read the full text or copy it. ## Voice and tone [#voice-and-tone] The Brand's personality preset controls how everything is written: | Preset | Voice | | ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | | Professional | Clear, direct, precise. No slang or emojis. This is the default. | | Gen-Z | Internet-native casual. Short sentences, hot takes. | | Creator | YouTube/podcast host energy. Conversational and warm. | | Provocative | Bold contrarian. Strong opinions, punchy sentences. | | Custom | Your own description of how the content should sound. | If the Video has no Brand attached, AI Writer falls back to Professional. ## Credits [#credits] Written content is charged once per Video, no matter how many content types are generated: | What | Cost | | ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | All AI Writer content for one Video | Video duration in minutes × 1.0 [credits](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) | A 10-minute Video costs 10 credits for the blog post, SEO content, newsletter, and social posts combined. Generation is skipped entirely if your team has no credits left. ## Related [#related] * [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/): where generated content lives alongside your clips * [Brand settings](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/settings/): personality presets and the repurpose toggle * [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/): how credits work # What is OpenClip? (https://openclip.app/docs/) OpenClip takes a long video (a podcast, stream, webinar, or any recording), finds the moments most likely to perform on short-form platforms, and turns them into vertical, captioned clips. You upload once and leave with a set of clips, a transcript, and written content, all generated from the same source video. ## The core flow [#the-core-flow] 1. **Submit a video** from a file upload or a URL. See [Quickstart](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/quickstart/). 2. OpenClip transcribes it, analyzes the content, and detects **Viral Moments**: clip candidates ranked by predicted engagement. 3. Review moments in the **Content Hub**, then fine-tune any clip in the **editor**: captions, trims, filler-word removal, and branding. 4. Download clips, share them with a link, or **schedule them** straight to your social accounts. ## What else is in the box [#what-else-is-in-the-box] * **[Brands](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/)**: saved profiles (caption style, logo, tone) applied automatically when you submit a video. * **[AI Writer](https://openclip.app/docs/ai-writer/)**: blog posts, newsletters, and social posts written from your video's content. * **[Tools](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/)**: one-off utilities for converting, compressing, trimming, transcribing, and cleaning up media. * **[AI UGC Studio](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/overview/)**: generate short talking-head creator videos from a script, no camera involved. * **[MCP and API access](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/)**: drive the whole pipeline from Claude, Cursor, or your own agents. ## Key terms [#key-terms] | Term | Meaning | | ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Video | A source video you submitted, from upload or URL | | Viral Moment | An AI-detected clip candidate with a virality score, hook, and category | | Brand | A saved processing profile (captions, logo, personality) | | Credit | The processing unit: 1 credit = 1 minute of source video | | Content Hub | The per-video workspace where moments, transcript, and content live | ## Where to start [#where-to-start] * New here? Follow the [Quickstart](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/quickstart/). * Wondering what things cost? Read [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). * Connecting an agent or IDE? Head to [MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/). # Quick Captions (https://openclip.app/docs/quick-captions/) Quick Captions is a lightweight flow for videos that are already the right length. You upload a short clip, OpenClip transcribes it, and you land in an editor where you style captions, cut dead air, and export an MP4. No Viral Moment detection, no clipping, no reframing. ## Start a Quick Captions video [#start-a-quick-captions-video] Open [https://openclip.app/tools/captions](https://openclip.app/tools/captions), or go to the Tools hub and pick Quick Captions. The page walks you through three steps: **Add a video**, **Caption it**, **Edit**. Drop a clip on the upload zone. OpenClip prepares the media and generates a transcript, then sends you straight to the editor. Quick Captions videos skip the rest of the pipeline, so processing is much faster than a full clipping run. ## The editor [#the-editor] The editor lives at `/quick-captions/{video}/edit` and autosaves as you work. | Area | What you can do | | ---------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Captions | Pick a caption preset, adjust style and position, or turn captions off | | Transcript | Fix transcription mistakes; caption text updates to match | | AI tools | Remove silences (with an adjustable minimum silence length) and remove filler words | | Timeline | Scrub the video, review detected scenes, and cut sections you do not want | Silence and filler removals are applied as cuts at export time, so you can toggle them on and off freely while previewing. ## Exporting [#exporting] Click export and the video renders in your browser, then downloads as an MP4 with your captions burned in and your cuts applied. On the Free plan, the monthly counter includes completed Quick Captions Videos that were created during the current calendar month and have an export recorded. It counts each qualifying Video once, not each download. | Plan | Export access | | -------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Free | Available while fewer than 2 qualifying Videos are counted this month | | Starter | Unlimited | | Pro | Unlimited | | Business | Unlimited | The editor shows the current count. When it reaches two, the Free plan blocks every further Quick Captions export, including re-exports, and prompts you to upgrade. The counter resets at the start of a new calendar month. See [credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) for what else each plan includes. ## Quick Captions vs the full pipeline [#quick-captions-vs-the-full-pipeline] Use Quick Captions when the video is already short and you only need captions and cleanup. Use the full pipeline when you want OpenClip to find the good parts for you. | You have | Use | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | A short clip that just needs captions, silence trimming, or filler removal | Quick Captions | | A long Video you want turned into multiple short clips | The clipping pipeline: upload it and review [Viral Moments](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/) in the [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/) | | A clip from the pipeline whose captions you want to restyle | The [clip editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/), not Quick Captions | Quick Captions videos do not appear in the Content Hub and do not generate Viral Moments or [AI Writer](https://openclip.app/docs/ai-writer/) content. ## Related [#related] * [Uploading videos](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/uploading-videos/): sources and upload limits for the full pipeline * [Captions in the clip editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/): caption styling for pipeline clips * [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/): the other lightweight tools next to Quick Captions # Social scheduling (https://openclip.app/docs/social-scheduling/) Social scheduling lets you publish clips to your social accounts on a schedule, straight from OpenClip. You connect accounts once, then schedule posts from the calendar at [https://openclip.app/social](https://openclip.app/social) or directly from the Viral Moments editor. Social scheduling is part of the [Pro plan](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) and is being rolled out gradually. If the Social section is not visible in your workspace, it is not enabled for your account yet. ## Supported platforms [#supported-platforms] All six platforms are live and connectable. Limits below are enforced when you schedule a post. | Platform | Caption limit | Max video length | | --------------- | ----------------- | ---------------- | | X (Twitter) | 280 characters | 2 min 20 sec | | Instagram Reels | 2,200 characters | 90 seconds | | Facebook | 63,206 characters | 90 seconds | | LinkedIn | 3,000 characters | 10 minutes | | TikTok | 2,200 characters | 10 minutes | | YouTube Shorts | 5,000 characters | 60 seconds | ## Connect an account [#connect-an-account] 1. Go to [https://openclip.app/social/accounts](https://openclip.app/social/accounts). 2. Pick a platform and click connect. 3. Sign in with that platform and approve the requested permissions. Each connection uses the platform's own OAuth flow. OpenClip only requests the scopes it needs to upload and publish video on your behalf. **Facebook and Instagram** share one connection flow. Connecting with Facebook Login lets you pick from your Facebook Pages and any Instagram Professional accounts linked to them, and you can select several targets at once. You need at least one Facebook Page; to publish Reels, the Page must have an Instagram Professional account linked. Approve every permission in the consent screen. If any is declined, the connection fails and you are asked to reconnect. Instagram can also be connected on its own through Instagram Business Login. Connections belong to your current team, so everyone in the workspace schedules to the same accounts. You can disconnect any account from the same page. ## Schedule a post [#schedule-a-post] The fastest path is from the editor: 1. Open a clip in the Viral Moments editor. 2. Open the **Schedule to Social Media** dialog. 3. Pick a date and time under **Schedule for**. 4. Select one or more connected accounts. 5. Optionally edit the caption per account, within each platform's character limit. One scheduled post can target several accounts at once. OpenClip publishes to each selected account at the scheduled time. ## Manage the calendar [#manage-the-calendar] The calendar at [https://openclip.app/social](https://openclip.app/social) shows every scheduled post for your team, month by month. Click a post to see its details, change it, or delete it. Deleting a scheduled post before its publish time means nothing is posted. ## Credits [#credits] Publishing costs [credits](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/): 1 credit per successful publication to each account. A post scheduled to three accounts costs 3 credits when it publishes. Failed or skipped publications do not consume credits. ## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting] | Problem | What to do | | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | "Facebook did not grant all required permissions" | Reconnect and approve every permission in the consent screen | | "No Facebook Pages or linked Instagram accounts were found" | Create a Facebook Page and link an Instagram Professional account to it, then reconnect | | "Your connection session expired" | The account picker timed out; start the connect flow again | | A post did not publish | Check that the video is within the platform's length and size limits, and that the account is still connected | # Brands overview (https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/) A Brand is a saved processing profile. It bundles your caption style, logo watermark, and content voice into one profile that OpenClip applies automatically every time you submit a video. Manage your Brands at [https://openclip.app/brands](https://openclip.app/brands). The page is titled **Brand Profiles** in the app. Old `/agents` links redirect here. ## Why use Brands [#why-use-brands] Without a Brand, you would restyle every batch of clips by hand. With one, every video you submit comes out already matching your look: same captions, same logo placement, same tone in generated copy. Brands are shared with your team. Everyone on the team sees the same list and can submit videos with any of them. ## How a Brand gets applied [#how-a-brand-gets-applied] 1. You submit a video from an upload or a URL (see the [quickstart](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/quickstart/)). 2. The upload form has a Brand selector. Your team's first Brand is preselected by default. 3. OpenClip processes the video using that Brand's captions, watermark, and voice settings. Every new account starts with one default Brand, created automatically on signup. If you join a team that already has Brands, no extra one is created. ## What a Brand contains [#what-a-brand-contains] | Part | What it controls | | -------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | | Caption style | The [caption](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/) preset and any style overrides | | Logo watermark | Your logo, its position, opacity, and size on exported clips | | Voice | The personality preset that shapes AI-generated text content | See [Brand settings](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/settings/) for every field. ## How many Brands you can have [#how-many-brands-you-can-have] Limits are per team and depend on your plan. See [credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) for plan details. | Plan | Brands | | -------- | --------- | | Free | 1 | | Starter | 1 | | Pro | 3 | | Business | Unlimited | ## Managing Brands [#managing-brands] On [https://openclip.app/brands](https://openclip.app/brands), each Brand card shows its name, logo, caption style preview, and how many videos use it. Open the card's menu (the three-dot button) for these actions: | Action | What it does | | --------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Edit | Opens the Brand's settings page | | Duplicate | Creates a copy of the Brand with the same settings | | Delete | Removes an unused Brand permanently. Brands associated with any Video cannot be deleted. | A duplicate counts toward your plan's Brand limit. If your team is already at the limit, duplicating is blocked until you delete an unused Brand or upgrade. ## Next steps [#next-steps] * Configure captions, watermark, and voice: [Brand settings](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/settings/) # Brand settings (https://openclip.app/docs/brands/settings/) Open [https://openclip.app/brands](https://openclip.app/brands) and click a Brand to edit it. The settings form has three tabs: **General**, **Captions**, and **Voice**. A live preview next to the form updates as you change settings. ## General [#general] | Setting | Details | | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Name | The Brand's display name. Click the refresh icon to generate a random one. | | Brand logo | Optional. PNG, JPG, or SVG, up to 2 MB. Used in previews and as the watermark. | | Logo watermark | Toggle. Shows your logo as a watermark on exported videos. | | Repurpose into text content | Toggle. Generates social posts, blog posts, newsletters, and SEO content from every processed transcript. Uses 1 processing minute per minute of video. | When the logo watermark is on, three more controls appear: | Control | Options | Default | | -------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------ | | Position | Top left, top right, center, bottom left, bottom right | Bottom right | | Opacity | 0 to 1 | 0.8 | | Size | 0.1 to 2 | 0.15 | ## Captions [#captions] Pick a caption preset from the gallery, then fine-tune it with style overrides (font, colors, animation, and more). The preset plus your overrides become the Brand's caption style, applied to every clip processed with this Brand. On the Free plan, only the basic presets (Clean and Dan) are available for Brands. Paid plans unlock the full gallery. See [captions](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/) for what each preset looks like and which styling options exist. ## Voice [#voice] The personality preset controls the tone of AI-generated text: clip titles, descriptions, and repurposed content. | Preset | Voice | | ------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- | | Professional | Clear, direct, precise. No slang or emojis. | | Gen-Z | Internet-native and casual. Short sentences, hot takes. | | Creator | YouTube and podcast host energy. Conversational and warm. | | Provocative | Bold and contrarian. Strong opinions, punchy sentences. | | Custom | Your own tone description, in your own words. | New Brands default to Professional. If you pick Custom, you must write a description of the voice you want (up to 1,000 characters). Keep it to tone and style guidance; instruction-like commands are rejected. ## Saving and limits [#saving-and-limits] Changes apply to videos you submit after saving. Already-processed videos keep the settings they were processed with. Creating or duplicating a Brand counts toward your plan's Brand limit (see the [overview](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/)). Editing an existing Brand never does. # Captions (https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/) Every clip renders with animated captions driven by its transcript. You style them in the [editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/); new clips start with the caption settings of the [Brand](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/) that processed the Video. ## Presets [#presets] OpenClip ships 40 caption presets. Each one is a complete look: font, colors, stroke, shadow, position, and animation. A few examples: | Preset | Style | | ---------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Clean | The default: white Inter with a black stroke and soft shadow, gentle per-word fade | | Dan | Yellow-highlight condensed style | | Mozi | Hormozi-inspired green highlight | | Karaoke | Words light up as they are spoken | | Beast | Comic-style with heavy stroke and pop animation | | Neon | Fluorescent glow with luminous halos | | Typewriter | Text types itself onto the screen | | Minimal | Quiet off-white with a single soft shadow, no stroke | Pick a preset in the editor's caption panel. The preview updates immediately. ## Style overrides [#style-overrides] You are not locked into a preset. On top of any preset you can override individual properties, including: | Property | Options | | ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Position | Bottom center, lower third, center, upper third, top center | | Animation mode | Per word or per segment | | Word animation | Static, pop, kinetic, burst, fade, bounce, reveal, slide, shake, glow-pulse | | Segment animation | Static, typewriter, kinetic, burst | | Typography | Font size, weight, line height, text transform | | Colors | Text, active word, inactive word | | Outline and depth | Stroke width and color, shadow blur and color | Overrides are stored per clip, so each Viral Moment can have its own look. ## Turning captions off [#turning-captions-off] Captions can be toggled off entirely for a clip. The clip then exports without captions. Your trims and silence removal still apply. ## Fixing caption text [#fixing-caption-text] Captions render whatever the transcript says. If a word is wrong, correct it in the transcript panel; see [the editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/). Timings are untouched, so the animation stays in sync. ## Free plan limits [#free-plan-limits] On the Free plan, two presets are available: Clean (the default) and Dan. Switching to any other preset is not saved; the editor keeps you on an allowed preset. Free plan exports also always carry the OpenClip watermark. Upgrade to remove the watermark and unlock all 40 presets; see [credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). ## Captions in other tools [#captions-in-other-tools] The same preset system powers Quick Captions and your [Brand](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/) defaults, so a look you like can become the starting point for every future clip. # Content Hub (https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/) The Content Hub is where you work with a processed Video. Open it at [https://openclip.app/hub](https://openclip.app/hub), then pick a Video to open its hub page. Each Video's hub is split into four tabs. ## Tabs [#tabs] | Tab | What it shows | | ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Exploration | The video player, the full transcript, and Content Intelligence items pinned on a timeline | | Clips | The rendered [Viral Moments](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/) as clip cards, with pagination and bulk selection | | Pre-generated | Written content generated from the video, such as blog posts and social posts, with filters | | Video | A timeline view of the source Video with Viral Moments and Content Intelligence laid over it | The Clips tab is the default when you open a hub without picking a tab. ## Content Intelligence [#content-intelligence] While your Video processes, OpenClip extracts Content Intelligence: notable moments in the transcript that are worth turning into content. There are four types: | Type | What it captures | | -------- | ----------------------------------- | | Quotable | A short line worth quoting directly | | Insight | A substantive point or takeaway | | Story | A narrative passage | | Hook | A line that grabs attention | These insights seed the generated content you see in the Pre-generated tab. Each intelligence item links to the content generated from it. ## Hub Chat [#hub-chat] Hub Chat is an AI chat that knows your video's transcript, clips, and generated content. Ask it to find a quote, compare moments, rewrite a social post, or show a specific clip. It can list content by type, rewrite and save content, and export text to your clipboard. Chat is only available on Videos you own. It is billed by usage: every 10,000 tokens of chat costs 1 [credit](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/), debited fractionally. Very small exchanges that round below 0.01 credit are not charged. ## Speakers [#speakers] If your Video has multiple speakers, OpenClip diarizes the transcript and labels each one. Click Manage Speakers in the hub to: * View every detected speaker * Rename a speaker * Merge two speakers that are actually the same person * Delete a speaker from the transcript Speaker labels appear in the transcript views. JSON transcript downloads include each sentence's `speaker_id`; plain-text and SRT downloads omit speaker information. ## Transcript [#transcript] The Exploration tab shows the full transcript alongside the player. You can also download the transcript in several formats; see [sharing and exporting](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/sharing-and-exporting/). ## Related pages [#related-pages] * [Viral Moments](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/) explains how clips are detected and scored. * [The editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/) is where you refine an individual clip. * [Brands](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/) control the caption preset and logo your clips start with. # Editor (https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/) Every Viral Moment has its own editor. Open a clip from the Clips tab of the [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/), or go to `https://openclip.app/viral-moments/{clip}/edit` directly. The editor shows a live preview with captions, a transcript panel, and a timeline. Changes save automatically; a save status indicator tells you when your edit is stored. ## Trim with segments [#trim-with-segments] A clip is defined by segments: the time ranges of the source that stay in the final cut. On the timeline you can: * Move the start and end of a segment to tighten the clip * Exclude a range in the middle, splitting the clip into multiple kept segments * Bring back a cut range if you change your mind The original AI-detected start and end times are kept, so trimming is never destructive to the source Video. ## Fix the transcript [#fix-the-transcript] Captions render from the clip's transcript, so a misheard word shows up on screen. Click a word in the transcript panel and retype it. Corrections change the text only; word timings stay untouched, so captions stay in sync. Corrections apply everywhere the transcript is used: the caption preview, exports, and transcript downloads. ## Remove silences [#remove-silences] The editor analyzes the gaps between spoken words and finds silences. Turn on silence removal and every gap longer than the threshold is cut from the export. The threshold is adjustable; the default is 800 ms. ## Remove filler words [#remove-filler-words] The editor detects filler words ("um", "uh", and similar) in the transcript. Turn on filler removal to cut them all at once. If a specific filler should stay, restore it individually; the rest stay removed. Silence and filler removal work together with your segment trims: the export applies all of them. ## Captions [#captions] From the same editor you can [pick a caption preset, override its style, or turn captions off](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/). ## Export and publish [#export-and-publish] When the clip is ready: * Export downloads the clip as an MP4. The export renders in your browser and does not use credits. * Schedule to Social queues the clip for your connected accounts; see [social scheduling](https://openclip.app/docs/social-scheduling/). * Share creates a public link; see [sharing and exporting](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/sharing-and-exporting/). ## Good to know [#good-to-know] * The editor opens rendered clips only. A moment that was detected but not processed into a clip has no editor page. * Edits are per clip. Restyling one Viral Moment never touches the others. # Sharing and exporting (https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/sharing-and-exporting/) Once a clip looks right in the [editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/), you have several ways to get it out of OpenClip. ## Public share links [#public-share-links] Every clip can have a public share link. Click share in the editor and OpenClip mints a link of the form `https://openclip.app/s/{token}`. Anyone with the link sees a public player page for the clip; no OpenClip account needed. A few things to know: * The token is the only key. The link is unguessable, does not expire, and there is no per-viewer access control. * Rotate the link to invalidate it. Rotating mints a new token; the old link stops working immediately. * The shared clip follows your plan. On the Free plan the shared clip carries the OpenClip watermark. ## Downloading clips [#downloading-clips] * Single clip: use export in the editor. The clip renders in your browser as an MP4, with your trims and captions baked in. Exports do not use credits. * Multiple clips: in the Clips tab of the [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/), enter selection mode, pick the clips you want, and download them together. ## Transcript downloads [#transcript-downloads] Full Video transcripts are available from the Content Hub in four formats: | Format | Contents | | --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Word / Sentence | JSON sentence records with timings and `speaker_id` (both currently return the same records) | | Text | Plain text, no timings or speaker information | | SRT | Subtitle timings and text, with no speaker information | A clip's editor has a separate export surface: | Format | Contents | | ------ | ------------------------------------------------------------ | | Word | JSON word records with `start`, `end`, `text`, and `speaker` | | Text | Plain text, no timings or speaker information | | SRT | Subtitle timings and text, with no speaker information | Sentence export is not available for clips. Clip transcript exports include any [corrections](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/) you made. ## Scheduling to social [#scheduling-to-social] You can publish without leaving OpenClip. In the editor, click Schedule to Social to queue the clip for your connected accounts. See [social scheduling](https://openclip.app/docs/social-scheduling/) for connecting accounts and managing your queue. ## Which option when [#which-option-when] | You want to | Use | | ------------------------------- | -------------------------------- | | Get feedback on a clip | Public share link | | Post manually | Download the MP4 | | Post on a schedule | Schedule to Social | | Grab every clip from a video | Bulk download from the Clips tab | | Subtitle or repurpose the audio | Transcript download | # Viral Moments (https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/) A Viral Moment is a clip candidate that OpenClip's AI found in your Video: a self-contained stretch of the source that can stand on its own as a short vertical clip. ## How detection works [#how-detection-works] Detection runs as a processing task on your Video. Submit a video from the dashboard at [https://openclip.app/dashboard](https://openclip.app/dashboard) and clip detection starts as part of processing. You can also trigger detection for a video from its dashboard page. The AI reads the transcript and audio, ranks candidate moments, and renders a capped selection of the highest-ranked moments as captioned vertical clips. The cap scales with the Video's duration, so longer Videos can produce more clips. Finished clips appear in the Clips tab of the [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/). ## What each Viral Moment includes [#what-each-viral-moment-includes] | Field | Meaning | | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | | Title | A short name for the moment | | Virality score | How likely the clip is to perform, as judged by the AI | | Engagement value | What makes the moment engaging | | Hook | The attention-grabbing line the clip opens on | | Quote | The key quote inside the moment | | Category | The type of content the moment is | | Social copy | A suggested post text for the clip | Detection also records the original detected start and end times, so you can always see what the AI picked before any edits. ## Working with detected clips [#working-with-detected-clips] From the Clips tab you can: * Open any clip in the [editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/) to trim it, fix the transcript, and restyle [captions](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/) * Select multiple clips and download them in bulk * Share a clip with a public link; see [sharing and exporting](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/sharing-and-exporting/) ## Plan differences [#plan-differences] The same duration-based selection policy applies on every plan. Plans change how much source footage you can process and how finished clips are delivered: | Plan | Output | | ------- | --------------------------------- | | Free | Exports are watermarked | | Starter | No watermark | | Pro | No watermark, priority processing | Processing a Video costs 1 [credit](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) per minute of source footage. ## Next steps [#next-steps] Open a clip in the [editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/) to make it your own before you post it. # Agent discovery surfaces (https://openclip.app/docs/developers/agent-discovery/) OpenClip publishes purpose-built machine-readable surfaces so agents can discover the product, read pages as Markdown, and find the MCP server and Integration API without scraping HTML. If you are building an agent integration, start here; to actually connect, see [MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/). ## All surfaces [#all-surfaces] | URL | What it serves | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | [https://openclip.app/llms.txt](https://openclip.app/llms.txt) | Index of the site's key pages for LLMs, with links to their Markdown versions | | [https://openclip.app/llms-full.txt](https://openclip.app/llms-full.txt) | The full site content in one Markdown file | | `https://openclip.app/{page}.md` | Markdown twin of a public page. Append `.md` to the path (for example [https://openclip.app/mcp.md](https://openclip.app/mcp.md) or [https://openclip.app/pricing.md](https://openclip.app/pricing.md)), or request the HTML URL with an `Accept: text/markdown` header | | [https://openclip.app/auth.md](https://openclip.app/auth.md) | Markdown-only reference on how agents authenticate with OpenClip | | [https://openclip.app/docs/llms.txt](https://openclip.app/docs/llms.txt) | Index of every documentation page, linking to each page's raw Markdown | | [https://openclip.app/docs/llms-full.txt](https://openclip.app/docs/llms-full.txt) | The full documentation corpus in one Markdown file | | [https://openclip.app/docs/skill.md](https://openclip.app/docs/skill.md) | Agent Skill file for these docs: when to use them and how to read them | | [https://openclip.app/docs.md](https://openclip.app/docs.md) | Markdown twin of the documentation homepage | | `https://openclip.app/docs/{slug}.md` | Markdown twin of one documentation page, for example [https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp.md](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp.md) | | [https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp.json](https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp.json) | MCP Server Card: endpoint, auth, and capabilities of the MCP server | | [https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json](https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json) | The same Server Card at its SEP-1649 path (also at `/mcp/server-card`) | | [https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp/catalog.json](https://openclip.app/.well-known/mcp/catalog.json) | MCP catalog listing OpenClip's MCP servers | | [https://openclip.app/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json](https://openclip.app/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) | Agent Skills index; the skill files live at `/.well-known/agent-skills/openclip/SKILL.md` and `/.well-known/agent-skills/openclip/reference.md` | | [https://openclip.app/.well-known/api-catalog](https://openclip.app/.well-known/api-catalog) | RFC 9727 API catalog (linkset) pointing to both the Integration API and the MCP server | | [https://openclip.app/sitemap.xml](https://openclip.app/sitemap.xml) | Main XML sitemap | | [https://openclip.app/sitemap-ai.xml](https://openclip.app/sitemap-ai.xml) | Sitemap of AI-relevant pages | | [https://openclip.app/docs/sitemap.xml](https://openclip.app/docs/sitemap.xml) | Sitemap of the documentation site | ## Reading pages as Markdown [#reading-pages-as-markdown] Public marketing pages negotiate content. Two equivalent ways to get Markdown instead of HTML: ```bash # Append .md to the path curl https://openclip.app/mcp.md # Or negotiate on the HTML URL curl -H "Accept: text/markdown" https://openclip.app/mcp ``` Docs pages use the same friendly alias: request `/docs.md` for the documentation homepage, or append `.md` to a page path such as `/docs/developers/mcp.md`. The [/docs/llms.txt](https://openclip.app/docs/llms.txt) index lists every documentation page with its Markdown URL. ## Finding the MCP server programmatically [#finding-the-mcp-server-programmatically] An agent landing on `openclip.app` cold can bootstrap itself: 1. Fetch `/.well-known/api-catalog`. Its linkset anchors both the Integration API (with its OpenAPI spec) and the MCP server (described by the Server Card). 2. Fetch `/.well-known/mcp.json` for the MCP endpoint and auth details, then connect as described in [Connect over MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/). 3. Optionally fetch the skill files from `/.well-known/agent-skills/` (or the zip at [https://openclip.app/mcp/skill](https://openclip.app/mcp/skill)) for the canonical usage instructions. ## Installing the Agent Skills [#installing-the-agent-skills] The endpoints above serve the umbrella `openclip` skill, which covers the whole tool surface. The full published set lives in a public repo: ```bash npx skills add OpenClip-App/agent-skills ``` That installs from [OpenClip-App/agent-skills](https://github.com/OpenClip-App/agent-skills) and works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and 70+ other agents. Alongside `openclip` it carries focused skills for clipping, captions, transcription, media conversion, video editing, thumbnails, background removal, repurposing, and UGC ads. Install only the ones you need. Claude Code can take the skills and the MCP server together, so there is no separate connection step: ```bash /plugin marketplace add OpenClip-App/agent-skills /plugin install openclip@openclip ``` Use the `/.well-known/agent-skills/` endpoints when an agent is bootstrapping itself with no shell, and the CLI or plugin when a human is setting the agent up. # Integration API (https://openclip.app/docs/developers/api/) The Integration API lets an external platform drive OpenClip's clipping pipeline on behalf of its own users: a Discord bot that clips a member's stream VOD, a Telegram bot that returns shorts from a link, or an internal enterprise workflow. It is aimed at partners and the Business plan, where API access, webhook integrations, and a custom integration scope are part of onboarding. If you want to drive OpenClip from an AI assistant instead, use [MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/). ## Reference [#reference] * Interactive reference (Scalar): [https://openclip.app/api/docs](https://openclip.app/api/docs) * Raw OpenAPI 3.0 spec: [https://openclip.app/api/docs/openapi.yaml](https://openclip.app/api/docs/openapi.yaml) The base URL for all endpoints is: ``` https://api.openclip.io/api/integration/v1 ``` ## Authentication [#authentication] Every request carries your API client's token as a bearer header: ``` Authorization: Bearer {your_api_token} ``` Each integration is registered as an API client with its own token, abilities, and rate limit. Rate limits are per client, not a fixed global value; read the `X-RateLimit-Limit` and `X-RateLimit-Remaining` response headers to see yours. Webhooks going the other way are signed. Every webhook payload carries an HMAC-SHA256 signature in the `Signature` header; verify it by computing `HMAC-SHA256(webhook_secret, raw_request_body)` and comparing the result before trusting the payload. ## What the API covers [#what-the-api-covers] **Users.** Create or find an OpenClip user from a platform identity (`platform` + `platform_user_id`, for example a Discord user id). The same call is idempotent: it returns the existing user if one is already linked. **Authentication.** Bridge your users into the OpenClip web app without passwords: request a 6-digit email verification code, verify it to receive a magic-link login URL, and redeem invite codes. **Videos.** Submit a video URL for processing (with optional `webhooks` for progress and completion callbacks) and poll its status by `job_id`. Submissions are tracked from the moment they are made, including failed downloads. **Viral Moments.** Once processing completes, list a video's detected moments: title, hook, timestamps, virality score, and clip URLs. **Rendering.** Request a captioned render of a viral moment with a chosen caption preset; a webhook hits your `callback_url` when the render finishes. **Caption presets.** List the available caption styles so your users can pick a look before rendering. ## Typical flow [#typical-flow] ```text 1. POST /users -> create or find the platform user 2. POST /videos -> submit a URL, get a job_id 3. GET /videos/{job_id}/status -> poll (or receive your webhook) 4. GET /videos/{job_id}/viral-moments 5. POST /viral-moments/{id}/render -> webhook fires when the render is done ``` The exact request and response shapes for every endpoint, including error responses and webhook payloads, live in the [interactive reference](https://openclip.app/api/docs). ## Getting access [#getting-access] API clients are provisioned as part of Business plan onboarding. See [plans and pricing](https://openclip.app/pricing) or contact support from the app to scope an integration. # MCP tools (https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp-tools/) The full OpenClip MCP server exposes 31 tools. This page is an overview so you know what is there. The canonical, always-current parameter reference is the skill bundle at [https://openclip.app/mcp/skill](https://openclip.app/mcp/skill) (its `SKILL.md` and `reference.md`) and the machine-readable page at [https://openclip.app/mcp.md](https://openclip.app/mcp.md). Those files are kept in lockstep with the server by CI; this page deliberately does not duplicate their parameter-level detail. Not set up yet? Start at [Connect over MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/). ## Endpoint scope [#endpoint-scope] | Endpoint | Authentication | Tools | | ------------------------------ | -------------- | --------------------------- | | `https://openclip.app/mcp` | OAuth | Full 31-tool server | | `https://openclip.app/mcp/key` | Bearer token | Full 31-tool server | | `https://openclip.app/mcp/app` | OAuth | Curated 10-tool ChatGPT app | The ChatGPT app exposes `get_account`, `submit_video`, `list_videos`, `get_video_status`, `get_render_status`, `list_clips`, `render_clip`, `list_caption_presets`, `list_supported_providers`, and `get_transcript`. The sections below describe the full 31-tool server. ## Clipping pipeline [#clipping-pipeline] The paid core flow: submit a long video, poll until processed, read the ranked Viral Moments, render captioned clips. | Tool | What it does | | -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `submit_video` | Submit a source video URL (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more) to start clip detection | | `get_video_status` | Poll one video's processing status until it completes or fails | | `list_clips` | List a video's detected Viral Moments: hook, virality score, timestamps, clip URLs | | `render_clip` | Produce a final captioned render of one Viral Moment | | `get_render_status` | Check the render state of a video's Viral Moments | | `list_caption_presets` | List the caption style presets available for rendering | | `get_transcript` | Get a processed video's time-coded transcript, sliceable by millisecond window | | `list_supported_providers` | List the video sources `submit_video` accepts | | `list_videos` | List the team's videos, most recent first | ## Uploads [#uploads] | Tool | What it does | | ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `create_upload` | Start an upload of a local file; returns a presigned URL you PUT the bytes to | | `complete_upload` | Finish an upload and start the paid clipping pipeline (skip this for free tools) | ## Free media utilities [#free-media-utilities] These need an account but no subscription. All are async: they return a `tool_job` id you poll. | Tool | What it does | | --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `transcribe` | Transcribe an uploaded video into time-coded text with JSON, SRT, and VTT downloads | | `edit_video` | Crop, trim, rotate, resize, compress, or mute an uploaded video | | `convert_media` | Convert an uploaded file to another video container, a GIF, or an audio format | | `extract_thumbnails` | Extract evenly spaced thumbnail frames from an uploaded video | | `edit_image` | Compress, resize, or crop an uploaded image | | `remove_background` | Remove an image's background and return a transparent PNG | | `get_tool_job_status` | Poll a free tool job until it completes or fails | ## UGC generation [#ugc-generation] | Tool | What it does | | -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `generate_ugc` | Generate a short vertical UGC-style video from a creative brief | | `get_ugc_job_status` | Poll a UGC generation job for its status and final clip URL | | `list_ugc_creators` | List the UGC spokespersons available to your team, grouped by niche | | `list_ugc_jobs` | List the team's UGC generation jobs, most recent first | ## Account and presets [#account-and-presets] | Tool | What it does | | -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `get_account` | Return the connected account: identity, team, and remaining credits | | `get_usage` | Return the team's credit balance and recent usage history | | `list_agents` | List the team's saved processing agents and caption presets | | `create_agent` | Create a processing agent for the team | | `update_agent` | Update one of the team's agents | | `describe_agent_settings` | Describe every nested agent setting, its type, and allowed values | | `create_agent_logo_upload` | Start uploading a logo image for an agent's watermark | | `set_agent_logo` | Finish setting an agent's logo after the upload | ## Documentation [#documentation] | Tool | What it does | | ------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `search_docs` | Search this documentation and return the most relevant pages with excerpts | ## How the tools behave [#how-the-tools-behave] Three patterns show up everywhere: * **Poll, don't wait.** Long jobs (`submit_video`, `render_clip`, free tools, UGC) return an id immediately; poll the matching status tool until the state is terminal. * **Ids are opaque hashids.** Pass them back exactly as returned. * **Times are milliseconds** across clips and transcripts, so a clip's window slots straight into `get_transcript`. # Connect over MCP (https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/) OpenClip's full remote MCP server exposes 31 tools for clipping, uploads, media utilities, UGC, account usage, and Brand management. It works in Claude, Cursor, Perplexity, and other clients that support remote MCP servers. The separate ChatGPT app endpoint exposes a curated set of 10 clipping tools. See [MCP tools](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp-tools/) for both scopes. The full server supports two authentication methods. Pick one. ## Option 1: OAuth (recommended) [#option-1-oauth-recommended] The primary endpoint is: ``` https://openclip.app/mcp ``` It uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so there is no key to copy. Paste the URL into your client and sign in with your OpenClip account when prompted. **Claude Desktop / claude.ai**: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste `https://openclip.app/mcp` → Connect → sign in. **Claude Code**: ```bash claude mcp add --transport http openclip https://openclip.app/mcp # then run /mcp to sign in ``` **Cursor** (`.cursor/mcp.json`): ```json { "mcpServers": { "openclip": { "url": "https://openclip.app/mcp" } } } ``` Cursor runs the OAuth flow when it first connects. Other clients with a "custom connector" or "remote MCP server" option work the same way: paste the URL, sign in. ### ChatGPT app endpoint [#chatgpt-app-endpoint] The OpenClip app for ChatGPT connects to: ``` https://openclip.app/mcp/app ``` It uses the same OAuth sign-in as the full server, but exposes only 10 reviewed clipping tools: account details, video submission and listing, processing and render status, clip listing and rendering, caption presets, supported providers, and transcripts. ## Option 2: Bearer token [#option-2-bearer-token] For header-only or programmatic clients that can't run an OAuth flow, use the token endpoint: ``` https://openclip.app/mcp/key ``` Generate a token at [https://openclip.app/settings/connect](https://openclip.app/settings/connect) ("Generate MCP token"). It is shown once, so store it safely. Send it as an `Authorization: Bearer` header on every request. **Claude Code**: ```bash claude mcp add --transport http openclip https://openclip.app/mcp/key \ --header "Authorization: Bearer " ``` **Cursor** (`.cursor/mcp.json`): ```json { "mcpServers": { "openclip": { "url": "https://openclip.app/mcp/key", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer " } } } } ``` ## Scopes [#scopes] All three endpoints require the `mcp:use` scope. OAuth tokens for `/mcp` and `/mcp/app` request it automatically, and bearer tokens minted for `/mcp/key` include it. A token without it is rejected with a 403. ## Verify the connection [#verify-the-connection] Ask your assistant to call `get_account`. It returns your account email, team, and remaining credits. If that works, the connection is good; try "turn this YouTube video into clips" next. ## Agent Skills [#agent-skills] Skills teach your agent how to drive OpenClip well: the async polling loops, the upload gotchas, and the per-tool parameter reference. There are two ways to install them. ### skills CLI (recommended) [#skills-cli-recommended] ```bash npx skills add OpenClip-App/agent-skills ``` This pulls the full published set from [OpenClip-App/agent-skills](https://github.com/OpenClip-App/agent-skills) and works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and 70+ other agents. Alongside the umbrella `openclip` skill you get focused ones for clipping, captions, transcription, media conversion, video editing, thumbnails, background removal, repurposing, and UGC ads. Install only the ones you want. Claude Code can install the skills and wire up the MCP server in one step instead: ```bash /plugin marketplace add OpenClip-App/agent-skills /plugin install openclip@openclip ``` ### Zip download [#zip-download] If you would rather not use Node, download the bundle at [https://openclip.app/mcp/skill](https://openclip.app/mcp/skill). It is a zip containing the umbrella skill's `SKILL.md` and `reference.md`. Unzip it into your agent's skills directory (for Claude Code: `.claude/skills/openclip/`). ## Notes [#notes] * Processing is asynchronous. Your agent submits work, then polls status tools; nothing is pushed to it. * The clipping pipeline needs credits, funded by a subscription or a running trial. A submission from a team with neither is accepted and parked: `submit_video` returns a `pending_credits` status instead of failing, and the video processes once the team is entitled. The full server's media utilities (transcribe, convert, edit, thumbnails, background removal) are free with just an account. * Manage or revoke your MCP token any time at [https://openclip.app/settings/connect](https://openclip.app/settings/connect). # Credits and plans (https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) OpenClip's core pipeline (clipping, content generation, Hub Chat, AI UGC) is priced in **credits**; the in-app [media tools](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/) instead use free daily quotas. One credit equals one minute of source video processing. Plans grant a monthly credit allowance; top-ups add more on demand. ## What costs credits [#what-costs-credits] | Action | Cost | | ----------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- | | Processing a Video (clipping pipeline) | 1 credit per minute of source video | | Content generation (blog posts, social posts, descriptions) | Source duration in minutes × 1.0, charged once per Video | | Hub Chat | 1 credit per 10,000 tokens | | AI UGC generation | 0.8 credits per second of generated output | Processing and content generation are both driven by the source video's length, so a 20-minute podcast costs 20 credits to clip. Trimming your submission to a section before processing charges only that portion. ## The free trial [#the-free-trial] Signing up does not grant credits. Free processing comes from the **3-day trial**, which requires a card and costs $0 today. Starting it seeds **60 credits**, opens processing, and resumes any videos you parked before starting (see [Uploading videos](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/uploading-videos/)). At the end of day 3 the first charge runs for the plan you picked, and the full first cycle of credits is allocated then. OpenClip emails you **24 hours before** that charge. Cancel before it runs and you are never billed. If the charge is declined, any remaining trial credits are reclaimed and processing locks until you fix the payment method. Clips rendered during the trial carry a **watermark**, and the watermark is baked into those files. Your first settled charge lifts it for every later render. Quick Captions export stays available while fewer than two completed Quick Captions Videos created in the current calendar month have an export recorded. Once the counter reaches two, all further Quick Captions exports are blocked until the next month. ## Plans [#plans] Prices are per month; yearly billing lowers the monthly rate. | | Free | Starter | Pro | Business | | ------------------- | ---- | ----------------------------- | ----------------------------- | ---------- | | Price | $0 | $12/mo ($10/mo billed yearly) | $23/mo ($19/mo billed yearly) | Custom | | Monthly credits | 0 | 150 | 300 | Customized | | Brands | 1 | 1 | 3 | Custom | | Watermark | Yes | No | No | No | | Team workspace | No | No | Yes | Yes | | Priority processing | No | No | Yes | Yes | Starter covers the core loop: AI clipping with virality scores, animated captions in 30+ languages, the editor, written content, filler and silence removal, and vertical reframing. Pro adds everything a team or heavier workflow needs: the team workspace, the social media scheduler, input from 10+ sources, custom fonts, and speech enhancement, on top of priority processing and multiple Brands. Business is a custom plan for organizations: customized credits, seats, and social connections, API and custom integrations, dedicated storage, and priority support. Contact sales from [https://openclip.app/pricing](https://openclip.app/pricing). The Free plan includes a demo project and access to [Tools](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/), which run without a subscription. Clipping your own videos requires a trial or a paid plan. ## Top-ups [#top-ups] Run out mid-month on an active paid plan? Buy a one-time credit Boost. Top-up minutes are regular credits and never expire with the month. Top-ups are unavailable on Free and until the first charge for a new subscription has settled. | Pack | Minutes | Price | | --------- | ------- | ----- | | Boost 60 | 60 | $9 | | Boost 180 | 180 | $19 | | Boost 360 | 360 | $29 | You can buy up to 10 of a pack in one purchase. Click your credit balance in the app header to open the Top-up Credits panel. ## Managing billing [#managing-billing] Use the plan control in the app header to change plans, and click your credit balance there to buy an eligible top-up. Open [https://openclip.app/billing](https://openclip.app/billing) for the Stripe portal, where you can update payment methods, view invoices, and cancel. Subscription usage is at [https://openclip.app/billing/usage](https://openclip.app/billing/usage), and the team's detailed credit ledger is at [https://openclip.app/billing/activity](https://openclip.app/billing/activity). See [Billing](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/billing/) for the full walkthrough. # Quickstart (https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/quickstart/) This is the shortest path from signup to a finished clip. The whole run takes a few minutes of your time plus processing time roughly proportional to your video's length. ## 1. Create an account [#1-create-an-account] Sign up at [https://openclip.app/register](https://openclip.app/register) and verify your email. Signing up does not grant processing credits on its own. ## 2. Start the trial (or pick a plan) [#2-start-the-trial-or-pick-a-plan] Processing costs credits: 1 credit = 1 minute of source video. The way in is the 3-day trial: it needs a card, costs $0 today, and seeds 60 credits so you can run a real video. The first charge runs at the end of day 3 and allocates your full first cycle. Start it from [https://openclip.app/pricing](https://openclip.app/pricing). Clips rendered during the trial carry a watermark; your first settled charge lifts it. See [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) for what each plan includes. ## 3. Submit a video [#3-submit-a-video] Go to [https://openclip.app/dashboard](https://openclip.app/dashboard). This is your Library: every Video your team has submitted lives here, and it is also where you submit new ones. You can either: * **Upload a file**: drag a video file onto the dropzone. * **Paste a URL**: drop a YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, OneDrive, or direct video link into the URL field. Before the upload starts, pick a **Brand**. A Brand is a saved processing profile: caption style, logo, and tone. If you have not made one yet, the default works fine; you can build your own later under [Brands](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/). You also pick the audio language, and you can optionally trim the submission to just the section you want processed, so you only pay credits for that portion. Full details on every input method are in [Uploading videos](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/uploading-videos/). ## 4. Wait for processing [#4-wait-for-processing] The Video moves through the pipeline stages, which you can watch live: preparing media, extracting audio, generating the transcript, analyzing the content, then detecting moments and creating clips. You do not have to keep the tab open; come back to the dashboard any time. ## 5. Review your Viral Moments [#5-review-your-viral-moments] When processing finishes, open the Video's **Content Hub**. This is the per-video workspace: the transcript, generated written content, and the list of **Viral Moments**, which are AI-detected clip candidates ranked by predicted engagement. Each moment shows its hook and score. See [Viral Moments](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/) for how the ranking works. ## 6. Fine-tune a clip [#6-fine-tune-a-clip] Open any moment in the [editor](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/editor/). From there you can adjust the trim, restyle captions, and remove filler words. Most clips are usable as-is; the editor is for the last 10 percent. ## 7. Download or share [#7-download-or-share] Export the clip as a vertical video, copy a share link, or send it to your connected social accounts. See [Sharing and exporting](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/sharing-and-exporting/). ## What next [#what-next] * Set up a proper [Brand](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/) so every future video comes out styled. * Read [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) to understand what everything costs. * Submitting many videos? Use bulk URLs, covered in [Uploading videos](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/uploading-videos/). # Uploading videos (https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/uploading-videos/) All uploads start at [https://openclip.app/dashboard](https://openclip.app/dashboard). There are three ways in: upload a file, paste a single URL, or paste a batch of URLs. All three feed the same pipeline and produce the same result: a Video in your Library with a [Content Hub](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/content-hub/) full of Viral Moments. Processing requires an active subscription or a running trial. Without one your upload is still accepted: it is **parked** in your Library with an estimate of how many clips it would produce, and it starts processing by itself the moment you begin a trial or subscribe. A team with no entitlement can hold **2** parked videos at a time. Nothing sweeps them away, so a parked video keeps until you come back for it. ## What you choose at submit [#what-you-choose-at-submit] Whichever method you use, you pick two things before processing starts: | Setting | What it does | | -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Brand | The processing profile applied to the video: caption style, logo, tone. See [Brands](https://openclip.app/docs/brands/overview/). | | Audio language | The spoken language, used for transcription. | You can also trim the submission to a specific timeframe before processing. Only the selected portion is processed and charged, which matters for long recordings where you only care about one segment. ## Direct file upload [#direct-file-upload] Drag a file onto the dropzone or click it to browse. Files upload directly to storage from your browser; large files are split into parts automatically, so the upload survives a slow connection. Accepted formats: MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, M4V, TS, MTS. Image files and GIFs are rejected. You can queue several files at once. The queue shows per-file progress, and processing starts as each upload completes. ## Paste a URL [#paste-a-url] Paste a link into the URL field and OpenClip downloads the video for you. Supported sources: | Source | Accepted links | Max file size | | ------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------- | | YouTube | youtube.com watch, Shorts, and live links; youtu.be links | n/a (fetched by resolution) | | Vimeo | vimeo.com and player.vimeo.com video links | 10 GB | | Rumble | rumble.com video and embed links | 10 GB | | Google Drive | Public drive.google.com and docs.google.com file share links | 10 GB | | Dropbox | Public dropbox.com share links | 10 GB | | OneDrive | 1drv.ms, onedrive.live.com, and SharePoint share links | 50 GB | | Direct video links | Any URL ending in .mp4, .mov, .webm, .avi, .mkv, .m4v, .flv, .wmv, .3gp, .mpeg, or .mpg | 10 GB | YouTube videos are fetched at 1080p where available, falling back to 720p. Cloud storage links (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive) must be public share links; OpenClip cannot access private files. The Pro plan lists **input from 10+ sources** as a plan feature; the table above is the baseline set every subscriber sees. See [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). ## Bulk URLs [#bulk-urls] Click **Want to upload more at once?** under the URL field to open the Bulk URLs panel. Paste up to **20 URLs**, one per line, and click **Add all to queue**. Each URL is validated on its own: one bad link fails individually and the rest still go through. Each URL becomes its own Video, all using the Brand you selected. ## After you submit [#after-you-submit] The Video appears in your Library immediately and moves through the pipeline: preparing media, extracting audio, generating the transcript, then detecting moments and creating clips. You can leave the page; progress updates on the dashboard. When it finishes, open the Content Hub to review the results, starting with [Viral Moments](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/viral-moments/). ## Costs [#costs] Processing costs 1 credit per minute of source video, and trimming the submission reduces the charge to just the processed portion. Details in [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). # Billing (https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/billing/) OpenClip subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Your subscription belongs to your [team](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/teams/), so one subscription covers everyone in the workspace. ## Plans [#plans] | Plan | Monthly | Yearly | Monthly credits | | -------- | ------- | --------------------- | ------------------------------------- | | Free | $0 | N/A | None (trial or plan required to clip) | | Starter | $12 /mo | $10 /mo billed yearly | 150 | | Pro | $23 /mo | $19 /mo billed yearly | 300 | | Business | Custom | Custom | Custom | Clips rendered during the trial export with a watermark, which your first settled charge lifts. Pro is priced per pack. Each pack adds 300 credits, and packs get cheaper in volume; see [Teams](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/teams/). For what credits are and what they buy, see [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). ## Manage your subscription [#manage-your-subscription] Go to [https://openclip.app/billing](https://openclip.app/billing) to open the Stripe billing portal. From there you can update your payment method, view invoices, and cancel your subscription. ## Change plans [#change-plans] Use the plan control in the app header to open the Upgrade Plan panel. * **Upgrades** apply immediately. Before you confirm, OpenClip shows a preview of the prorated amount you will be charged today. * **Downgrades** (and Pro pack reductions) are scheduled instead: you keep your current plan until the end of the billing cycle, then the change takes effect. A banner shows the scheduled change, and you can cancel it any time before it applies. ## Credit top-ups [#credit-top-ups] Need more credits without changing plans? On an active paid plan, click your credit balance in the app header to open Top-up Credits. Top-ups are unavailable on Free and until the first charge for a new subscription has settled. | Pack | Credits | Price | | --------- | ------- | ----- | | Boost 60 | 60 | $9 | | Boost 180 | 180 | $19 | | Boost 360 | 360 | $29 | You can buy up to 10 of a pack in one checkout. Top-ups are one-time purchases, not subscriptions. ## Promo codes [#promo-codes] Enter a promo code when picking a plan at checkout. The code is validated against Stripe before you pay, so you see whether it applies (and what it is worth) before confirming. ## Referrals [#referrals] OpenClip has a referral program at [https://openclip.app/referrals](https://openclip.app/referrals). You get a personal link to share; people who subscribe through it get a discount, and you earn 30% of every payment they make, paid out monthly, for as long as they stay subscribed. Your referral dashboard (powered by Cello, opened from inside the app) shows clicks, signups, active subscriptions, and earnings. ## Cancelling [#cancelling] You can cancel any time from the billing portal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. # Teams (https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/teams/) Everything in OpenClip belongs to a team: videos, clips, brands, credits, and the subscription. You get a team automatically when you sign up. On Pro and Business, you can invite other people into that team so everyone works from the same workspace and credit balance. ## Team settings [#team-settings] Open your team from the account menu to manage it. From team settings you can: * Rename the team. * Invite and remove members (owner only). * Cancel pending invitations. * View the team's credit activity. * Delete the team. ## Invite members [#invite-members] Team invitations are available on the Pro and Business plans. Free and Starter accounts cannot invite members. 1. Open your team settings. 2. Enter the person's email address and choose a role. 3. They receive an email invitation to join the team. Only the team owner can invite members. Pending invitations can be cancelled from the same page. If someone already belongs to the team or was already invited, you will get a validation error instead of a duplicate invite. ## Roles [#roles] | Role | Intended scope | | ------------- | ----------------------- | | Administrator | Full access | | Editor | Day-to-day content work | Today both roles can create, edit, and delete the team's content (videos, clips, Brands, scheduled posts); the role mainly affects team administration. Give access accordingly. The team owner manages members, roles, and billing. ## Pro packs [#pro-packs] The Pro plan is priced in **packs**. Each pack adds 300 monthly credits to the team, and the per-pack price drops as you add more: | Packs | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | | ----- | ---------------- | ---------------- | | 1-2 | $23 /mo per pack | $19 /mo per pack | | 3-5 | $21 /mo per pack | $17 /mo per pack | | 6-10 | $19 /mo per pack | $15 /mo per pack | | 11+ | $17 /mo per pack | $13 /mo per pack | Adding packs takes effect immediately with a prorated charge. Reducing packs is scheduled for the end of your current billing cycle. See [Billing](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/billing/) for how plan changes work. Packs change the team's credit allowance only. They do not add seats or limit how many members a Pro team can invite. ## Credits are per team [#credits-are-per-team] Each team has its own credit balance and its own subscription. If you belong to several teams, switching teams switches the balance you spend from. You can review any team's balance and history at [Usage and activity](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/usage/). ## Redeem an invite code [#redeem-an-invite-code] If you received an OpenClip invite or gift code, redeem it at [https://openclip.app/invite](https://openclip.app/invite). Depending on the code, redeeming can start a promotional plan trial, unlock access to the app, or add bonus credits to your balance. If you opened a gift card link, the code is pre-filled for you. Just confirm it. # Usage and activity (https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/usage/) Two pages show where your [credits](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) go: a usage chart for your subscription, and a detailed activity ledger per team. ## Usage [#usage] [https://openclip.app/billing/usage](https://openclip.app/billing/usage) shows your subscription's metered usage: * **Total usage this period**: the headline number at the top. * **Monthly usage**: a bar chart of usage per billing period, with exact values on hover. The data comes from your subscription's usage records in Stripe, so this page is only populated when your team has an active subscription. Without one, the chart is empty. ## Team activity [#team-activity] [https://openclip.app/billing/activity](https://openclip.app/billing/activity) is the credit ledger. It shows, for one team at a time: | Element | What it shows | | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Team selector | Switch between the teams you belong to; your current team is marked | | Available credits | The team's current credit balance | | Scheduled change banner | Any pending plan or pack change and the date it takes effect | | Activity table | The team's most recent credit entries (up to 100) | Each row in the activity table has four columns: | Column | Meaning | | ------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Date | When the entry happened | | Reason | What caused it, for example a processed video, a top-up, or a plan adjustment | | Change | How many credits were added or debited | | Balance | The balance after the entry | Entries that relate to a specific video link back to it, so you can see exactly which upload consumed the credits. ## Reading the ledger [#reading-the-ledger] * **Debits** come from processing videos and other credit-consuming features, such as [social publishing](https://openclip.app/docs/social-scheduling/). * **Credits added** come from your monthly plan allocation, one-time top-ups, bonuses, and plan changes. See [Billing](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/billing/) for top-up options. * Balances are **per team**. If you belong to several teams, use the selector to check each one. The page defaults to your current team. ## Scheduled changes [#scheduled-changes] If you have scheduled a downgrade or a Pro pack reduction, the activity page shows a banner like "Changing from Pro to Starter on \[date]" or "Reducing to 2 packs on \[date]". The change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. To cancel a scheduled change, see [Billing](https://openclip.app/docs/team-and-billing/billing/). ## Checking usage from an agent [#checking-usage-from-an-agent] If you use the [MCP integration](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp/), the `get_usage` tool returns the same credit balance and recent usage history programmatically. # Convert (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/convert/) Convert covers three operations: change a video's container format, turn a clip into an animated GIF, or pull the audio out as a standalone file. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/convert](https://openclip.app/tools/convert), or press Cmd-K and type "convert", "gif", or "mp3". ## Convert video [#convert-video] Re-encode a video into another format. | Option | Choices | Default | | ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- | | Format | MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV | MP4 | | Video quality | Auto, High (8 Mbps), Medium (4 Mbps), Low (2 Mbps) | Auto | | Audio quality | Auto, High (320 kbps), Good (256 kbps), Standard (192 kbps), Compact (128 kbps) | Auto | Auto lets the encoder pick a bitrate. Pick an explicit quality only when you need to control file size. ## Video to GIF [#video-to-gif] Turn a video (or a section of one) into a looping GIF. | Option | Choices | Default | | --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------- | | Frame rate | Smooth (20 fps), Standard (15 fps), Small (10 fps), or 1 to 60 | 15 | | Size | Large (640px), Medium (480px), Small (320px), or a custom width | 480 | | Quality | Sharper (5), Balanced (10), Smaller file (20), range 1 to 30 | 10 | | Loop | Infinite, Play once, Loop 3 times | Infinite | | Start (ms) / End (ms) | Trim range in milliseconds | Whole video | GIFs get large fast. For anything longer than a few seconds, drop the frame rate and size before reaching for the quality knob. ## Extract audio [#extract-audio] Rip the audio track into its own file. | Option | Choices | Default | | --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------- | | Format | MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC | MP3 | | Audio quality | Auto, High (320 kbps), Good (256 kbps), Standard (192 kbps), Compact (128 kbps) | Auto | | Start (ms) / End (ms) | Trim range in milliseconds | Whole video | MP3 is the safe default. Use WAV or FLAC when you need lossless audio for further editing. ## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits] Converted videos and GIFs are visual outputs, so free-plan results carry a watermark. Extracted audio is not visual and is never watermarked. Every run counts against your daily quota (10 on free, 500 on paid), and inputs follow your plan's caps: 200 MB / 10 minutes free, 2 GB / 6 hours paid. See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/). ## Related [#related] * Need the video smaller in the same format? That is Compress in [Edit video](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/). * Want a transcript of the audio instead of the audio itself? Use [Transcribe](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/transcribe/). # Edit image (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/) Edit image bundles three quick image operations: compress, resize, and crop. Upload an image, pick an operation, download the result. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/edit-image](https://openclip.app/tools/edit-image), or press Cmd-K and type "compress", "resize", or "crop". ## Compress image [#compress-image] Shrink the file size, optionally changing the format at the same time. | Option | Choices | Default | | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------- | | Quality | High (90), Balanced (80), Smaller file (60), or any value 1 to 100 | 80 | | Format | JPG, PNG, WebP | JPG | Both options sit under advanced, so the default run is a one-click JPG at quality 80. Lower quality means a smaller file; below 60 you will start to see artifacts in photos. WebP usually beats JPG at the same quality. ## Resize image [#resize-image] Scale to exact dimensions. Both fields are required; there is no aspect-lock, so mismatched values will stretch the image. | Option | Range | | ----------- | --------- | | Width (px) | 1 to 8192 | | Height (px) | 1 to 8192 | ## Crop image [#crop-image] Cut the image to a region. Two ways to define it: * **Aspect ratio**: pick a preset and adjust the centered crop. * **Pixel box**: drag in the visual crop editor, which sets exact X, Y, width, and height. | Option | Choices | Default | | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ------- | | Aspect ratio | 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5 | 9:16 | | X / Y / Width / Height (px) | Free-form pixel values via the crop editor | N/A | ## Output format [#output-format] Compress outputs whichever format you pick (JPG by default). Resize and crop output JPG. ## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits] Image edits are visual output, so free-plan results carry a watermark; paid plans remove it. Runs count against your daily tool quota (10 on free, 500 on paid) and inputs follow your plan's size cap (200 MB free, 2 GB paid). See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/). ## Related [#related] * Cutting a subject out of its background is its own tool: [Remove background](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/remove-background/). * The same crop, resize, and compress operations exist for video in [Edit video](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/). # Edit video (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/) Edit video is six small operations under one roof. Pick an operation, set its options, and get an MP4 back. Every operation in this family outputs MP4. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/edit-video](https://openclip.app/tools/edit-video), or press Cmd-K and type the operation you want ("trim", "crop", "mute"). ## Trim [#trim] Cut a video down to a time range. | Option | Type | | ---------- | --------------------- | | Start (ms) | Number, defaults to 0 | | End (ms) | Number | Times are in milliseconds. Leave End empty to keep everything after the start point. ## Crop [#crop] Reframe the video. Two ways to define the crop: * **Aspect ratio**: pick a preset and the tool centers the crop for you. * **Pixel box**: drag a box in the visual crop editor, which sets exact X, Y, width, and height in pixels. | Option | Choices | Default | | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ------- | | Aspect ratio | 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5 | 9:16 | | X / Y / Width / Height (px) | Free-form pixel values via the crop editor | N/A | ## Rotate [#rotate] Turn or mirror the video. | Option | Choices | Default | | ------- | -------------------------- | ------- | | Degrees | 90, 180, 270 | 90 | | Flip | None, Horizontal, Vertical | None | Flip sits under advanced options and can be combined with a rotation. ## Resize [#resize] Scale to exact dimensions. Both fields are required; there is no aspect-lock, so mismatched values will stretch the video. | Option | Range | | ----------- | --------- | | Width (px) | 1 to 8192 | | Height (px) | 1 to 8192 | ## Compress [#compress] Shrink the file. The simple path is a target size; the advanced options give finer control. | Option | Choices | Default | | -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------- | | Target size | Small (10 MB), Medium (25 MB), Large (50 MB), or a custom number | N/A | | Video quality | Auto, High (8 Mbps), Medium (4 Mbps), Low (2 Mbps) | Auto | | Max resolution | Original, 1080p, 720p, 480p | Original | | Audio quality | Auto, High (320 kbps), Good (256 kbps), Standard (192 kbps), Compact (128 kbps) | Auto | | Audio channels | Stereo, Mono | N/A | | Remove audio | On/off | Off | | Quality (CRF) | Higher quality (18), Balanced (23), Smaller file (28), range 18 to 32 | N/A | Set either a target size or a quality value, not both. When a Quality (CRF) value is set, it takes priority over the target size. ## Mute [#mute] Strip the audio track. No options; run it and download the silent MP4. ## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits] All edit-video outputs are visual, so free-plan results carry a watermark. Runs count against your daily quota, and inputs follow your plan's size and duration caps. See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/). ## Related [#related] * Changing the container format (MP4 to WebM) is [Convert](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/convert/), not an edit. * Cropping an image instead of a video? Use [Edit image](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/). # Tools overview (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/) Tools are quick, one-off utilities built into the OpenClip app. Each one takes a file, runs a single job, and gives you a download. They are separate from the clipping pipeline: no Viral Moments, no credits, just an input and an output. These in-app tools are not the same as the public one-shot tools on the marketing site. The in-app versions live inside your workspace, show up in your run history, and can run on files already in your Library. ## The Tools hub [#the-tools-hub] Open the hub at [https://openclip.app/tools/hub](https://openclip.app/tools/hub). It lists every tool family: | Tool | What it does | | --------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | | [Transcribe](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/transcribe/) | Turn speech into text, SRT, and VTT | | [Edit video](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/) | Trim, crop, rotate, resize, compress, or mute | | [Convert](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/convert/) | Change format, make a GIF, or pull the audio | | [Thumbnails](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/thumbnails/) | Grab still frames from any video | | [Edit image](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/) | Compress, resize, or crop an image | | [Remove background](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/remove-background/) | Erase the background to a clean PNG cutout | Each tool has its own workspace page, for example [https://openclip.app/tools/transcribe](https://openclip.app/tools/transcribe) or [https://openclip.app/tools/edit-video](https://openclip.app/tools/edit-video). Upload a file or pick one from your Library, set the options, and run. The hub also shows a **Recent** strip with your team's latest tool runs. Click a run to jump back to that tool with the same operation selected. ## The Cmd-K launcher [#the-cmd-k-launcher] Press **Cmd-K** (Ctrl-K on Windows) anywhere in the app to open the tool launcher. Search by name or keyword ("gif", "mute", "srt"), pick an operation, and you land on the right workspace with that operation preselected. The dashboard search bar and the sidebar entry open the same launcher. ## Quotas and limits [#quotas-and-limits] Tools run without a subscription. Free accounts get a daily allowance; paid plans raise every limit. | Limit | Free | Paid | | ------------------ | ---------- | ------- | | Runs per day | 10 | 500 | | Max input size | 200 MB | 2 GB | | Max input duration | 10 minutes | 6 hours | The daily quota resets each day and is shared across all tools. ## Watermarks on free [#watermarks-on-free] On the free plan, operations that produce a visual output (video edits, GIFs, thumbnails, image edits, background removal) carry a watermark. Text and audio outputs, meaning transcripts and extracted audio, are never watermarked. Any paid plan removes the watermark from everything. ## How a run works [#how-a-run-works] 1. Open a tool page or hit Cmd-K. 2. Drop in a file, or select one you already uploaded. 3. Set the options. Advanced options sit behind a toggle so the defaults stay simple. 4. Run. The job processes in the background; the page polls until it finishes. 5. Download the result, or send it into the next step (for example, caption and clip a trimmed video). # Remove background (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/remove-background/) Remove background takes an image and erases everything behind the subject. The output is always a PNG with a transparent background, ready to drop onto any design, thumbnail, or slide. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/remove-background](https://openclip.app/tools/remove-background), or press Cmd-K and type "background" or "cutout". ## How it works [#how-it-works] 1. Open the tool page. 2. Upload an image. 3. Run. There are no options to configure; the tool detects the subject automatically. 4. Download the PNG cutout. ## Output [#output] | Property | Value | | ---------- | ----------- | | Format | PNG | | Background | Transparent | The output is always PNG because PNG supports transparency. If you need a smaller JPG or WebP afterwards, run the cutout through [Edit image](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/) with the Compress operation, keeping in mind that JPG has no transparency and will fill the background. ## What it works best on [#what-it-works-best-on] Clean subject-background separation gives the best cutouts: product shots, portraits, logos on plain backgrounds. Busy scenes with fine detail (hair against a cluttered background, semi-transparent objects) are harder and may need touch-up in an image editor. ## The Pro Background Remover [#the-pro-background-remover] There is also a separate, public **Pro Background Remover** at [https://openclip.app/tools/pro-background-remover](https://openclip.app/tools/pro-background-remover). It is one of the free one-shot tools on the marketing site and runs the removal in your browser, with a choice of replacement background (transparent, white, black, or gray). The in-app tool documented on this page is the workspace version: it runs as a tracked tool job, appears in your Recent runs, and shares the same quota and history as every other in-app tool. ## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits] Cutouts are visual output, so free-plan results carry a watermark; paid plans remove it. Runs count against your daily tool quota (10 on free, 500 on paid) and inputs follow your plan's size cap (200 MB free, 2 GB paid). See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/). ## Related [#related] * Compress, resize, or crop the cutout with [Edit image](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/). * Extract a frame from a video first with [Thumbnails](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/thumbnails/), then remove its background. # Thumbnails (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/thumbnails/) The Thumbnails tool grabs still frames from a video. Ask for one frame or several; frames are spaced across the video and delivered together as a single zip file. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/thumbnails](https://openclip.app/tools/thumbnails), or press Cmd-K and type "thumbnail" or "frames". ## Options [#options] The tool has one operation, Extract frames, with two settings: | Option | Choices | Default | | --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- | | How many frames | 1, 3, 5, or 10 frames (any number from 1 to 10) | 1 frame | | Size | Large (1920px), Medium (1280px), Small (640px), or a custom width | 1280 | Size is the output width in pixels; height follows the video's aspect ratio. Size sits under the advanced options, so a default run just asks how many frames you want. ## Output [#output] Every run outputs a **zip file** containing the extracted frames, even a single-frame run. Unzip it to get the images. ## Extracting frames [#extracting-frames] 1. Open the tool page. 2. Upload a video, or pick one from your Library. 3. Choose how many frames you want. Open advanced options if you need a different size. 4. Run, then download the zip when the job completes. ## Picking a good source moment [#picking-a-good-source-moment] The tool spaces frames across the video for you; you do not pick timestamps. If you need a frame from one exact moment, trim the video to a short range around that moment first with [Edit video](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/), then extract a single frame from the trimmed result. ## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits] Frames are visual output, so free-plan results carry a watermark. Paid plans remove it. Runs count against your daily quota (10 on free, 500 on paid), and inputs follow your plan's caps: 200 MB and 10 minutes on free, 2 GB and 6 hours on paid. See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/). ## Related [#related] * Need to shrink or convert the extracted frames? Run them through [Edit image](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-image/). * Want a moving preview instead of a still? Make a short GIF with [Convert](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/convert/). # Transcribe (https://openclip.app/docs/tools/transcribe/) The Transcribe tool converts speech into accurate text. One run gives you all three output formats at once: a plain transcript, an SRT subtitle file, and a VTT subtitle file. Open it at [https://openclip.app/tools/transcribe](https://openclip.app/tools/transcribe), or press Cmd-K and type "transcribe". ## What it accepts [#what-it-accepts] Transcribe takes both video and audio files. It is the only tool family that accepts audio input directly, so podcast episodes and voice memos work as well as videos. Input limits follow your plan: 200 MB and 10 minutes on free, 2 GB and 6 hours on paid. See [Tools overview](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/overview/) for the full quota table. ## Output formats [#output-formats] | Format | File | Use it for | | ------ | ------- | --------------------------------------------- | | Text | `.json` | Reading, editing, or feeding into other tools | | SRT | `.srt` | Subtitles for most video editors and players | | VTT | `.vtt` | Subtitles for web players and HTML5 video | You do not pick a format up front. Every run produces all three, and you download whichever you need from the result screen. ## Options [#options] | Option | Type | Default | What it does | | --------------- | ------ | ------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Detect speakers | On/off | On | Labels who is speaking (diarization), so multi-person recordings read as a conversation | Detect speakers sits under the advanced options. Leave it on for interviews and podcasts. Turning it off can make sense for single-speaker recordings where labels add noise. ## Running a transcription [#running-a-transcription] 1. Open the tool page. 2. Upload a file, or pick a video already in your Library. 3. Check the Detect speakers setting if you need to change it. 4. Run. The page polls the job until it completes. 5. Download the text, SRT, or VTT file. ## Watermarks and quota [#watermarks-and-quota] Transcripts are text, not visuals, so they are never watermarked, even on the free plan. Each run still counts against your daily tool quota (10 runs on free, 500 on paid). ## Related [#related] * Want captions burned into a video instead of a subtitle file? That is the clipping pipeline, not this tool. Start at [What is OpenClip?](https://openclip.app/docs/). * Need to pull the audio out of a video first? Use [Convert](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/convert/) with the Extract audio operation. # Creators (https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/creators/) A creator is the face and identity of your UGC videos. Once picked or saved, the same face renders in every clip, so a series of videos looks like one consistent spokesperson. You choose a creator in the first step of the studio at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc). ## The curated roster [#the-curated-roster] The roster is a gallery of ready-made creators, grouped by niche: | Niche | Label in the gallery | | --------- | -------------------- | | SaaS | SaaS & apps | | Ecommerce | DTC ecom | | Fitness | Fitness | | Beauty | Beauty | | Other | Other | Click a creator to select it; click again to deselect. **Surprise me** picks one at random. The roster is available on every plan, including free accounts. ## Import your own face (paid) [#import-your-own-face-paid] **Import your face** turns a photo into a reusable creator: 1. Upload a clear, front-facing photo. This becomes the identity anchor for every video. 2. Name the creator and pick a niche. 3. Confirm the rights checkbox: you must have the rights to use the face and consent to it appearing in generated videos. 4. Click **Import face**. The new creator is saved to your team and auto-selected, with your in-progress script kept. ## Clone and tweak (paid) [#clone-and-tweak-paid] With a creator selected, **Clone and tweak** duplicates it: same face and identity, your changes on top. You can override any [brief field or voice setting](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/) before saving. Useful for keeping one face across different settings or tones. ## Design a creator (paid) [#design-a-creator-paid] **Design a creator** renders a brand-new photoreal face from scratch: 1. **Start from an archetype.** One click pre-fills every option: Gen-Z lifestyle, Beauty / GRWM, Skincare reviewer, Fitness coach, Tech reviewer, Everyday parent, Foodie / kitchen, Finance / money, Wellness / outdoors, Gamer, Corporate / SaaS, or Student / dorm. 2. **Pick a render quality.** | Quality | Trade-off | | ------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | | Premium | Sharpest, most realistic face. Takes a little longer. | | Basic | Faster, lighter draft quality. | 3. **Fine-tune the details** (optional). Accordion sections for Identity (creator, age, look), Look (hair, build, wardrobe, energy), Scene, and Voice (accent), plus a Finishing touches field for tiny details like freckles or jewelry. Avoid explicit wording; the image filter rejects it. 4. Click **Generate creator**. The face renders in a minute or two. 5. Name it, pick a niche, and click **Save creator**. Not happy? **Regenerate** first. Each design render is a real image generation, so teams are capped at 50 design drafts per day. ## Managing your team's creators [#managing-your-teams-creators] Creators you import, clone, or design belong to your team and appear in the roster for every teammate. Your own creators show a kebab menu on their card with: * **Rename**: change the display name. * **Delete**: removes the creator and its face for good. Videos you already generated are unaffected. Curated roster creators cannot be renamed or deleted. ## No creator at all [#no-creator-at-all] You can also skip the creator step and generate from a [brief](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/) alone. The studio renders a new face from your description; the review card shows it as "From your brief". Use a saved creator when you need the same face across clips. # Library and sharing (https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/library-and-sharing/) Every UGC video your team generates lands in the library at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library). Reach it from the **Your library** button in the studio. ## Browsing the library [#browsing-the-library] Clips are grouped by creator, so each face's videos sit together; clips generated from a brief alone group under **Custom brief**. Each tile is a 9:16 preview that plays on hover, with the script excerpt below it. A tile shows one of three states: | State | What you see | | --------- | --------------------------------------------------- | | Rendering | An animated tile with a "Rendering..." badge | | Completed | The playable video, with Remix and Download buttons | | Failed | A muted tile with a "Failed" badge | The library paginates at 24 clips per page. ## Remix a clip [#remix-a-clip] **Remix** is the fastest way to make a variation. It opens the studio prefilled from that clip: * The same creator, script, and start scene. * The same seed, so the new render stays visually close to the original. * Any brief or voice tweaks you made on top of the creator's defaults. Change what you want (usually the script) and generate. Remixing is how you turn one working clip into a series with a consistent face. ## Download [#download] **Download** appears on completed clips and saves the vertical MP4. The same button is on the in-page result card right after a render finishes. ## Public share links [#public-share-links] Every finished clip has a stable public link: ``` https://openclip.app/c/{id} ``` The link redirects to the video file, so it works in a browser, a chat message, or an embed. It never expires, and viewers do not need an OpenClip account. The id is unguessable, but anyone who has the link can watch the clip, so treat it as public once shared. Share links are returned as `share_url` when you check a job over the [API or MCP](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp-tools/) (`get_ugc_job_status`). Links only resolve once the clip is completed; unfinished or unknown ids return a 404. ## Free accounts [#free-accounts] On the free plan you get one UGC generation per day per team, and the library works the same way. After your daily clip, the studio invites you to subscribe; paid generation is metered by the seconds you render. See [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/). ## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting] * **A clip is stuck on Rendering.** Renders take a few minutes end to end. The status updates on its own; check back or refresh the library. * **A clip shows Failed.** No credits are kept for failed renders (the reservation is refunded). Remix the clip to retry with the same setup. * **"We could not confirm the render" after generating.** The request may still have reached the render service; the page keeps checking in the background, and the clip can still appear in your library shortly. If it never does, generate again. # AI UGC Studio overview (https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/overview/) The AI UGC Studio turns a written script into a short vertical video of an AI creator speaking it to camera. You pick a face, write the line, and get back a 9:16 clip you can download, caption, and post. The studio lives at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc). Your finished clips collect in the [library](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/library-and-sharing/) at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library). > **Early access**: the AI UGC Studio is currently behind an early-access flag, so it may not be available on your account yet. ## How it works [#how-it-works] The studio is a four-step flow: 1. **Choose your creator.** Pick from the curated roster, import your own face, or design a new one. The same face renders in every clip. See [Creators](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/creators/). 2. **Write the script.** The line your spokesperson says. Scripts are capped at 55 words; see [Scripts and briefs](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/). 3. **Fine-tune (optional).** Set the clip length and captions, or open Advanced for the brief, voice, scene, and seed. 4. **Review and generate.** Check the summary card, then generate. The video renders in the page, with a progress bar, and also lands in your library. Rendering takes a few minutes. You can leave the page; the clip appears in your library when it finishes. ## Clip length [#clip-length] Output length is driven by your script, up to a per-profile ceiling: | Length option | Cap | Where | | ------------- | --- | --------------------------------------- | | Standard | 12s | Fine-tune step (default) | | Short | 8s | Fine-tune step | | Street | 12s | Advanced (punchier street-style pacing) | No clip can exceed 20 seconds, which is the hard generation ceiling. ## Captions [#captions] You can apply any of OpenClip's caption presets to the clip in the same run. Caption selection is available on paid plans; free accounts see an upgrade prompt instead. Pick a preset in the Fine-tune step, or choose **No captions**. ## What it costs [#what-it-costs] * **Free accounts** get one UGC generation per day per team. No credits are used. * **Paid accounts** are metered by output length at **0.8 credits per generated second**. Before the render starts, the worst case is reserved (the clip's length ceiling); when the clip finishes, the charge settles down to the actual duration. The review step shows the worst-case estimate: you only pay for the final clip length. For example, a 5-second clip settles at 4 credits. See [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) for how credits work generally. ## Generate from an agent [#generate-from-an-agent] The studio is also exposed as MCP tools (`generate_ugc`, `list_ugc_creators`, `get_ugc_job_status`, `list_ugc_jobs`), so you can generate clips from Claude or any MCP client. See [MCP tools](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp-tools/). ## Next steps [#next-steps] * [Creators](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/creators/): the roster, importing a face, designing a new one. * [Scripts and briefs](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/): writing lines that fit, and every fine-tune option. * [Library and sharing](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/library-and-sharing/): remixing, downloading, and share links. # Scripts and briefs (https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/) The script is the one required input: the line your creator speaks. Everything else (brief, voice, scene, seed) is optional fine-tuning on top of the creator's defaults. ## Writing the script [#writing-the-script] Type your line in the **Write the script** step. A live counter shows the word count and an estimated spoken length, and warns when the read runs past your selected clip length. Guidelines: * **Lead with the hook** in the first 2 seconds. * **Fit the clip.** A natural read is roughly 2.5 words per second, so a 12-second Standard clip fits about 30 words and an 8-second Short clip about 20. * **Hard limit: 55 words.** Clips cannot exceed 20 seconds of output, and the studio rejects scripts that would not finish on screen. Stuck? The **Need a starting point?** row offers one-tap hook starters that prefill the script. ## Clip length [#clip-length] Pick a length in the Fine-tune step: | Option | Cap | Notes | | -------- | --- | -------------------------------------------- | | Standard | 12s | Best for most videos (default) | | Short | 8s | Quick, punchy test | | Street | 12s | Punchier street-style pacing, under Advanced | The clip is sized to your script at a natural speaking pace; the cap is a ceiling, not a target. ## The brief [#the-brief] Open **Advanced: brief, voice, scene, seed** in the Fine-tune step to reach the brief. A creator already bakes these values, so only fill in what you want to override: | Field | What it controls | Example | | --------- | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | | Character | Who is on camera | a woman in her late 20s, natural skin, warm and candid | | Wardrobe | What they wear | plain dark crewneck, minimal | | Setting | Where they film | a bright kitchen, soft window light | | Framing | Camera position | phone propped on the counter, medium-close | | Vibe | Delivery feel | candid, talking to a friend | | Sound | Audio character | quiet room tone, no music | ## Voice [#voice] The voice picker sets accent and tone with chips. Re-clicking a selected chip clears it, falling back to the creator's baked voice. | Setting | Options | | ------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Accent | american, british, australian | | Tone | energetic, calm, confident, warm, playful, casual, motivating, bubbly | ## Start scene [#start-scene] Also under Advanced, **Start scene** offers curated scene presets that set the clip's opening frame. Click to select, click again to clear and use the creator's default scene. ## Seed [#seed] The seed locks the generation's randomness. Reuse a seed with the same inputs to get a closely matching result; leave it empty for variety. When you [Remix](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/library-and-sharing/) a clip, its seed is carried over automatically. ## Captions [#captions] On paid plans, pick any caption preset in the Fine-tune step to caption the clip in the same run, or choose **No captions**. Free accounts see an upgrade prompt; captions for UGC clips require a paid plan. The presets are the same ones used across OpenClip; see [Captions](https://openclip.app/docs/clipping/captions/). ## Review and generate [#review-and-generate] The final step shows the creator, script, and a settings grid (Length, Captions, Scene, Voice). On paid plans a cost line shows the worst-case credit reservation; you only pay for the final clip length. Click **Generate your video** to start the render.
