The Thumbnails tool grabs still frames from a video. Ask for one frame or several; frames are spaced across the video and delivered together as a single zip file.

## Options [#options]

The tool has one operation, Extract frames, with two settings:

| Option          | Choices                                                           | Default |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- |
| How many frames | 1, 3, 5, or 10 frames (any number from 1 to 10)                   | 1 frame |
| Size            | Large (1920px), Medium (1280px), Small (640px), or a custom width | 1280    |

Size is the output width in pixels; height follows the video's aspect ratio. Size sits under the advanced options, so a default run just asks how many frames you want.

## Output [#output]

Every run outputs a **zip file** containing the extracted frames, even a single-frame run. Unzip it to get the images.

## Extracting frames [#extracting-frames]

1. Open the tool page.
2. Upload a video, or pick one from your Library.
3. Choose how many frames you want. Open advanced options if you need a different size.
4. Run, then download the zip when the job completes.

## Picking a good source moment [#picking-a-good-source-moment]

The tool spaces frames across the video for you; you do not pick timestamps. If you need a frame from one exact moment, trim the video to a short range around that moment first with [Edit video](https://openclip.app/docs/tools/edit-video/), then extract a single frame from the trimmed result.

## Watermarks and limits [#watermarks-and-limits]

Frames are visual output, so free-plan results carry a watermark. Paid plans remove it. Runs count against your daily quota (10 on free, 500 on paid), and inputs follow your plan's caps: 200 MB and 10 minutes on free, 2 GB and 6 hours on paid.
