# AI UGC Studio overview (https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/overview/)

The AI UGC Studio turns a written script into a short vertical video of an AI creator speaking it to camera. You pick a face, write the line, and get back a 9:16 clip you can download, caption, and post.

The studio lives at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc). Your finished clips collect in the [library](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/library-and-sharing/) at [https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library](https://openclip.app/tools/ugc/library).

> **Early access**: the AI UGC Studio is currently behind an early-access flag, so it may not be available on your account yet.

## How it works [#how-it-works]

The studio is a four-step flow:

1. **Choose your creator.** Pick from the curated roster, import your own face, or design a new one. The same face renders in every clip. See [Creators](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/creators/).
2. **Write the script.** The line your spokesperson says. Scripts are capped at 55 words; see [Scripts and briefs](https://openclip.app/docs/ugc-studio/scripts-and-briefs/).
3. **Fine-tune (optional).** Set the clip length and captions, or open Advanced for the brief, voice, scene, and seed.
4. **Review and generate.** Check the summary card, then generate. The video renders in the page, with a progress bar, and also lands in your library.

Rendering takes a few minutes. You can leave the page; the clip appears in your library when it finishes.

## Clip length [#clip-length]

Output length is driven by your script, up to a per-profile ceiling:

| Length option | Cap | Where |
| ------------- | --- | --------------------------------------- |
| Standard | 12s | Fine-tune step (default) |
| Short | 8s | Fine-tune step |
| Street | 12s | Advanced (punchier street-style pacing) |

No clip can exceed 20 seconds, which is the hard generation ceiling.

## Captions [#captions]

You can apply any of OpenClip's caption presets to the clip in the same run. Caption selection is available on paid plans; free accounts see an upgrade prompt instead. Pick a preset in the Fine-tune step, or choose **No captions**.

## What it costs [#what-it-costs]

* **Free accounts** get one UGC generation per day per team. No credits are used.
* **Paid accounts** are metered by output length at **0.8 credits per generated second**. Before the render starts, the worst case is reserved (the clip's length ceiling); when the clip finishes, the charge settles down to the actual duration. The review step shows the worst-case estimate: you only pay for the final clip length.

For example, a 5-second clip settles at 4 credits. See [Credits and plans](https://openclip.app/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans/) for how credits work generally.

## Generate from an agent [#generate-from-an-agent]

The studio is also exposed as MCP tools (`generate_ugc`, `list_ugc_creators`, `get_ugc_job_status`, `list_ugc_jobs`), so you can generate clips from Claude or any MCP client. See [MCP tools](https://openclip.app/docs/developers/mcp-tools/).
