Viral Moments

How OpenClip detects clip-worthy moments and scores them for engagement.

A Viral Moment is a clip candidate that OpenClip's AI found in your Video: a self-contained stretch of the source that can stand on its own as a short vertical clip.

How detection works

Detection runs as a processing task on your Video. Submit a video from the dashboard at https://openclip.app/dashboard and clip detection starts as part of processing. You can also trigger detection for a video from its dashboard page.

The AI reads the transcript and audio, ranks candidate moments, and renders a capped selection of the highest-ranked moments as captioned vertical clips. The cap scales with the Video's duration, so longer Videos can produce more clips. Finished clips appear in the Clips tab of the Content Hub.

What each Viral Moment includes

FieldMeaning
TitleA short name for the moment
Virality scoreHow likely the clip is to perform, as judged by the AI
Engagement valueWhat makes the moment engaging
HookThe attention-grabbing line the clip opens on
QuoteThe key quote inside the moment
CategoryThe type of content the moment is
Social copyA suggested post text for the clip

Detection also records the original detected start and end times, so you can always see what the AI picked before any edits.

Working with detected clips

From the Clips tab you can:

  • Open any clip in the editor to trim it, fix the transcript, and restyle captions
  • Select multiple clips and download them in bulk
  • Share a clip with a public link; see sharing and exporting

Plan differences

The same duration-based selection policy applies on every plan. Plans change how much source footage you can process and how finished clips are delivered:

PlanOutput
FreeExports are watermarked
StarterNo watermark
ProNo watermark, priority processing

Processing a Video costs 1 credit per minute of source footage.
