Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. OpenClip processes the rendered video file as-is, including any motion graphics, lower thirds, or visual effects you've applied in After Effects. The AI works from the audio transcript, so existing graphics won't interfere with clip detection or speaker tracking.

We recommend using Adobe Media Encoder to export H.264 MP4 at 1080p or 4K. Avoid lossless or RAW formats as they produce very large files with no benefit for OpenClip's processing. H.264 offers the best balance of quality and file size.

OpenClip does not currently offer an After Effects plugin or extension. The integration is file-based: render your composition, then upload the file to OpenClip's web platform. This keeps the workflow tool-agnostic and straightforward.

If you've already burned captions into your After Effects render, OpenClip will add its own caption layer on top. To avoid duplicate captions, render your video without burned-in captions and let OpenClip apply its AI caption presets instead.

OpenClip's AI moment detection and speaker tracking work best with talking-head or interview-style video that includes human speech. For purely animated explainer content without a narrator, the AI can still detect transcript-based moments, but speaker tracking won't activate without a visible human speaker.

OpenClip automatically reframes widescreen video to vertical (9:16) using AI-powered speaker tracking. AI face detection identifies and follows the active speaker, dynamically cropping the frame to keep them centered throughout each clip.

For repurposing purposes, yes — OpenClip handles clip detection, cropping, captioning, and format export automatically. You still need After Effects for your original production work (motion graphics, VFX, compositing), but OpenClip removes the need to manually re-edit for short-form distribution.
